BUSHNELL PHANTOM 2 SLOPE GPS REVIEW
Playing on a hilly course and relying on a GPS device can be frustrating when the displayed distance doesn’t reflect the actual elevation change. This can lead to using the wrong club and ending up short of the green. However, the new Bushnell Phantom 2 Slope is one of the few golf GPS units that compensate for elevation changes, providing more accurate yardages and boosting your confidence on the swing.
Compared to the original Phantom 2 GPS, the basic functionality remains unchanged. It still offers moveable pin positions, lay-up and hazard information, and scorekeeping. When the Slope feature is enabled, a small icon appears on the screen’s top left corner. It’s important to note that slope-adjusted distances are not legal for competition play, so make sure to disable the Slope mode for medal rounds.
In terms of accuracy, the Bushnell Phantom 2 Slope performed well compared to the Motocaddy M5 GPS electric trolley and our Bushnell Tour V5 Shift laser rangefinder. Distances to the pins, even those appearing central on the green, were highly comparable, differing by only a few yards at most.
What sets the Phantom 2 Slope apart is its simplicity compared to a laser rangefinder. It detects the course and displays distances to the front, middle, and back of the first green within seconds of turning it on. Switching holes is easy using the buttons on the left-hand side, and the basic screen graphics are clear and readable even from a distance. The device’s lightweight and compact design allows for versatile storage options, such as keeping it in your pocket, attached to your bag, or clipped to a club face using the excellent Bite magnetic mount feature.
Additionally, the Bushnell Phantom 2 Slope provides access to the excellent Bushnell app, offering color hole maps, flyovers, scoring, and performance insights. It’s available in black and striking camo grey, making it one of the best Bushnell golf rangefinders for the money.
