GARMIN APPROACH S60 GPS WATCH REVIEW
The Garmin Approach S60 strikes a balance between style and function with its color options in classic Black and sleek White. Weighing a mere 1.60 ounces, the watch proves to be lightweight and comfortable for extended wear. Its dimensions, measuring 1.9 x 1.9 x 0.6 inches, and a screen size of 1.2 inches allows for a compact yet clear display.
My wife has a small wrist, measuring 6″ in circumference, and she was concerned about how the watch would fit. However, it’s fine. The band is comfortable, and she is using the 4th hole on the strap from the smallest setting. It doesn’t irritate her skin, although it is slightly big, it’s still acceptable. It just gives off a sporty, outdoorsy vibe. This makes it one of our editors’ picks for best golf watches for ladies in 2023.
However, a note of caution revolves around the charging port. The port is unfortunately located on the underside of the watch face, right against your arm. This design flaw exposes the port to sweat and dirt, which could compromise its functionality over time. As a workaround, I recommended that you purchase a silicon plug to provide some degree of protection. Nevertheless, users should be prepared to regularly clean the port to maintain optimal charging capabilities.
EASY TO USE
Just like the Garmin Approach S42, the S60 is also incredibly user-friendly. Its interface is intuitive and easy to navigate without needing the manual. One of the reasons I purchased the S60 was for the watch feature. I wear it all the time. It’s slightly bigger than most watches, but not heavy. Battery life is impressive.
It does come with 15 pages of instructions if that tells you anything. Of course, the main reason I bought it was for the golf features. It takes some time to get used to, but the basic yardage, scoring, and changing course views are pretty easy to use. I’ve also found the timer, alarm, pedometer, and stopwatch to be useful. The only real issue I’ve had is connecting to the Garmin Connect App, but that’s probably my error. If you’re looking for more than just a GPS, you’ll like the S60.
ACCURACY AND PRECISION
The Garmin Approach S60 boasts a full-color course map that provides precise yardage to greens, hazards, and doglegs. Having used the watch on multiple courses, I can confirm its accuracy within a few yards. The mapping function is particularly useful for unfamiliar courses or when playing in challenging weather conditions.
In addition to golfing, the S60 offers various outdoor recreation profiles, including skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, paddle boarding, and rowing. This feature adds versatility to the watch and allows users to track their performance in other activities as well.
The S60 boasts an impressive battery life of up to 10 hours in GPS mode or up to 10 days in watch mode. Compared to the S42, this is a significant improvement, making the S60 ideal for longer gaming sessions or multi-day trips without the need to recharge. The battery life is more than sufficient, far better than the Samsung Active 2 I used to wear. While it may not last 36 hours, it’s perfectly fine for my 9 or 18-hole games. Additionally, it’s super comfortable, with a non-GPS battery life lasting several days. The always-on display is easy to read even in daylight, making it my go-to everyday watch.
Overall, the Garmin Approach S60 impresses with its design, ease of use, accuracy, and various features. It may have a few minor flaws, such as the inconvenient charging port location, but its overall performance and capabilities make up for it. I highly recommend this watch to any golfer looking to elevate their game and have a seamless experience on the course. So, if you’re in the market for a reliable and feature-packed golf GPS watch, look no further than the Garmin Approach S60.
