History Of The Safeway Open Tournament :
The Safeway Open Tournament has been recently rechristened, based on the current primary sponsor of the event, the Safeway Inc.. They will continue to support the Tournament till 2020. The venue will also remain at the Silverado Country Club, Napa Valley until then.
Safeway Open was first hosted in 2007 under the name Fry’s Electronics Open at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. In 2008, it moved to the Cordevalle Golf Club in San Martin, California. By this time it was going under the alias Frys.com Open. In October, 2014, the committee chose Silverado Country Club, where the current Safeway Open tour is going to be held.
Frys.com had been the title sponsor of Safeway Open for 9 years. They are hoping to return on board once they complete The Fry’s clubhouse at The Institute in Morgan Hill. The winners they have overseen include Mike Weir, Cameron Beckman, Troy Matteson, Rocco Mediate, Bryce Molder, Joan Blixt, Jimmy Walker, Bae Sang-Moon and Emiliano Grillo.

This year, the Safeway Open is going to be a party of sorts at the Napa Valley. For the first time in this tournament, they are hosting a social event where golf is the main attraction. To key up the energy, they have a number of star appearances. Some of the veterans would not want to mix golf with all-inclusive fun. But many tourneys in the past have demonstrated how golf and non-golf fun can sit together peacefully.
